At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, resided a young shepherd. His existence was mostly untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His main role was mainly to care for his flock of ewes.
Their gentle baas and the whispering of the wind through the single tree on the hilltop were his main associates. Day in day, guarding his wards inculcated in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.

One morning he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.
The boy chuckled at the confusion on their faces. This prank persisted for a couple of more days. However, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
